CogniLog Privacy Policy

This page explains what CogniLog stores, what leaves your device and when, and what we receive if you contact us or sign up for updates.

Where your log is stored. Your entries, tags and channels are stored on your Mac and iPhone. We don’t run servers that hold your log, and we can’t read your entries.

Sync. If you’re signed in to iCloud, CogniLog syncs your log between your devices through your own iCloud account, using Apple’s CloudKit. That falls under Apple’s privacy terms and your iCloud settings. It doesn’t pass through us. If you’re not signed in to iCloud, there’s no sync: each device keeps its own separate log, and it stays on that device.

AI assistants. CogniLog includes an MCP (Model Context Protocol) server, so an AI tool you use, like Claude, can read your log and answer questions about your work. When you connect one, that tool receives the entries it asks for. The AI tool is run by you or by a company you chose, under its own privacy terms, and we have no control over what it does with that text. The server only runs when your AI tool starts it, and it doesn’t send anything anywhere on its own. If you never connect an AI tool, none of your log is shared this way.

What we receive directly. If you email us, we get your message and use it only to reply. If you sign up for updates on this site, we keep your email address and use it only for updates about the app. We don’t sell personal information, and this site has no ads or third-party trackers.

Usage counts. CogniLog counts how its features get used, such as how many entries were logged in a day, which views were opened, and whether an import ran, and sends us those daily totals. We use them to decide what to work on. They don’t include your name, email, a device identifier, or any of your text. Your entries, searches, and channel and tag names stay on your device. The counts are sent through Apple’s CloudKit, which attaches an anonymous per-account token to each report. We can’t connect that token to you, and we only use it to avoid counting the same device twice. There’s no third-party analytics service, no tracking, no ads, and nothing is sold. If we ever collect more than these counts, we’ll update this page first.

Crash reports. If you choose to share crash data with Apple, we may see grouped crash reports through Apple’s tools, with nothing that identifies you. We use them to fix bugs.

Children. CogniLog isn’t meant for children, and we don’t knowingly collect information from anyone under 13.

Changes to this page. If we change this policy, we’ll update the date below, and note anything significant here.

Deleting your data, or asking what we have. Email support@rivetrune.com to come off the updates list or to ask what we hold. Your log is on your own devices and in your own iCloud, so you can delete it any time in the app (Settings has a full wipe), or by deleting the app and its iCloud data.
